If Mars had a magnetic field and an atmosphere; Notice how the sunset is red with the more dense atmosphere, where Mars with no magnetic field usually has a blue sunset.
The difference is magneticism and the role this plays in maintaining an atmosphere. Internal processes in the planets core would have maintained Mars' magnetic field in the distant past. This render shows how similiar Mars and Earth really are...
